Many people think that The Jabberwocky is a poem of nonsense, made of unnecessary and invented words, the definition of which is left to the discretion of the reader.
Still, Lewis Carroll, novelist, essayist, photographer and professor of mathematics, made use of portmanteau words, which he inferred a precise and studied definition in many of his works.
A portmanteau word is a neologism formed from merging two, or more, words. In his poem The Jabberwocky these neologisms are recurrent and actually kind of make sense.
The use of neologisms by Carroll does not fall within the fantasy and fun of nonsense, but is judicious, subtle and poetic.
